PEEK: The Perfect Polymer for High-Performance Applications

Since our very first time precision machining polyetheretherketone, or PEEK, the Accurate CNC Services team has fallen in love with this high-performance, easy-to-machine polymer.

Originally developed in 1978 as an insulative material for cables, PEEK is now widely used for prototyping and large-scale production runs. Because of PEEK’s heat tolerance and low-toxicity emissions when exposed to flames or extreme heat, this colorless, organic thermoplastic is an excellent choice for high-temperature processes such as injection molding and additive manufacturing.

At Accurate CNC Services, we most commonly employ CNC precision machining to manufacture PEEK parts and products.

What Makes PEEK Unique?

PEEK

PEEK has quite a high price point, but its properties make the cost worthwhile when you require a high-performance material.

The thermoplastic is incredibly lightweight while retaining impressive electrical, heat, wear, fatigue, and creep resistance—meaning it does not warp under stress. Regardless of the manufacturing process, PEEK is capable of holding tight tolerances with excellent accuracy and repeatability.

For applications that require enhanced toughness, PEEK can be reinforced with glass fibers or carbon.

Glass-filled PEEK

Oil and gas customers, in particular, prefer the stiffness of glass-filled PEEK because of its protective properties against heat and chemicals. However, this material is so tough that it can cause excessive wear to adjacent parts.

Carbon-filled PEEK

Carbon-filled PEEK is more wear-resistant, providing enhanced load-bearing and reduced expansion. It also has increased thermal conductivity, contributing to the longevity of parts and products.

Precision Machining PEEK at Accurate CNC Services

We’re always thrilled to make PEEK parts and products in our precision machine shop. The material machines easily and produces a clean edge.

PEEK for industrial applications

Industrial customers often prefer PEEK even to trusted metals like stainless steel. We regularly machine PEEK for automotive and electronics applications.

PEEK for medical applications

Healthcare customers love PEEK for a wide range of biocompatible applications, including surgically implanted devices and dental appliances.

PEEK for food and beverage applications

We mostly machine PEEK for food and beverage (F&B) applications. Deemed safe by the FDA, PEEK can be found in F&B processing plants, cookware, dispensers, packaging, and more.

Other PEEK applications

How else is PEEK used?

  • Semiconductor machinery components

  • Aerospace parts

  • Bushings, bearings, seals, and backup rings

  • Pump and valve components

  • Vacuum wand handles

  • Down-hole electrical connectors
