Precision Machining Spotlight: We Said YES When Other Shops Said NO

Here at Accurate CNC, taking great care of our customers isn’t just a good business practice; it’s what makes our precision machining work meaningful, fulfilling, and fun. We thrive on building authentic relationships with our customers and learning their needs so we can develop manufacturing solutions that result in exceptional parts and products.

Go behind the scenes with us to see how we put our people-focused principles to work on a customer’s project—one that other shops refused to touch!

Precision Machining Solutions for Real People

This story began when a local man walked into our Idaho machine shop and inquired about the possibility of getting a custom tailgate cover made for his truck. Tailgate covers are nothing new; many automotive companies make and sell them commercially. But this man owned a Nissan Titan, and for whatever reason, Nissan doesn’t make a tailgate cover for the Titan.

This gentleman had visited shop after shop and been turned away every time. Finally, a Google search brought him to Accurate CNC Services, where he quickly discovered what differentiates our family-run shop from all the others.

When other shops say “no” to a project, we’re the shop that says “yes.”

We’re inspired and energized by opportunities to make something out of the ordinary. It’s one of the reasons we happily provide rapid prototyping services and complete one-off jobs that aren’t intended for larger production.

Intrigued by our visitor’s request for a custom tailgate cover, Syd and Taylor accompanied the man to our parking lot to discuss his vision. This gentleman’s requests presented the opportunity to build a truly custom product that wouldn’t simply exceed the quality of other commercially available tailgate protectors; it would enhance the man’s overall enjoyment of his vehicle!

For 45 minutes, Syd and Taylor jotted down notes, disassembled the tailgate, and took detailed measurements. Our new customer wanted the built-in cupholder relocated so it would no longer be blocked by a drawer in the truck bed, and he asked us to tap a few additional bolt holes.

Finally, we inquired about his spending goals and discussed solutions to keep the project within his budget.

Great Results Start with Asking the Right Questions

More than 20 years in manufacturing have taught us that to find the right solutions, we must ask the right questions. When we get to know each customer as a person, take the time to fully understand their goals, and collaborate with them on our approach, we deliver brag-worthy finished products!

Because this tailgate cover only existed in our customer’s head, we knew we would need to create the 2D drawing and 3D model ourselves. From the outset, we accounted for the CAD work in our project plan, along with the material procurement and, of course, the precision machining itself.

We’re constantly working to establish ourselves as a one-stop shop that can perform or manage every aspect of a manufacturing project. This tailgate cover project allowed us to put many of these capabilities into practice.

Communication that Goes Above and Beyond

From project details to timelines, costs, and capacity, Accurate CNC prioritizes communication and transparency at every step. To ensure customers are never caught off guard by unanticipated challenges, we discuss those possibilities first. We also believe customers should never face sticker shock, so we outline every pricing factor and notify customers immediately if anything changes.

With our customer’s full understanding and approval, his tailgate cover will soon be a permanent fixture on his prized truck. Made from marine-grade HDPE StarBoard, the product meets our customer’s every specification and requirement, and the quality impresses even us!

Because of our shop’s commitment to well-documented processes and excellent communication, we can confidently say that every detail has been accounted for. Now we’re eagerly awaiting the day our customer drives away in his newly enhanced Nissan Titan with a big smile on his face.
